Marissa earned her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s degree in Social Work at Cleveland State University. She is currently licensed as an Independent Social Worker in the State of Ohio and has been practicing for 15 years working with adolescents, adults and families. Marissa has experience with the county and the Domestic Violence Shelters working with adults and families who were victims of abuse, neglect, and trauma.

Marissa has several years working in the psychiatric hospital setting addressing the needs of adults who are in an immediate crisis, chemically dependent, and those who are seeking outpatient services. She has done therapeutic programming in schools developing groups for high school students addressing bullying, self esteem, depression and anxiety. Marissa has extensive experience counseling emotionally disturbed adolescents individually and with their families in a residential treatment setting. She developed programs that fit her client’s needs and addressed a multitude of mental health diagnosis.

Marissa’s true passion for counseling began when she was trained in 2008 in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). This treatment modality has proven to be effective in treating adolescents and adults improving quality of life and functioning. Marissa has also been trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Although Marissa has been trained in these areas, she doesn't always see one treatment approach that fits all diagnosis. Marissa’s personal interests include traveling, running, and spending time with her family.
